...Winter's Goodbye ... 2016-8-24

...  I'm writing this post to the sound of steady rain falling......  it's been raining for 2 days now and we are told this is  Winter's  goodbye song ...

I find it's nice to be inside with the heaters on, all warn and cosy having a cup of tea......  so nice to be retired ..  but I do feel sorry for the people who have to work in the rain...  like my brother who is a mailman ..  or as we say in Australia.... a postie....

......  this is looking from my front door  .......
                                                                                                                                                                  ........

on to happy things......  today's photo prompt was Angry.... well ... I asked Mum to give me an Angry face and this is it....
... all the face book people thinks she's great for trying..but that she doesn't look angry at all.. xxx

Hubby is happy his orchids are starting to open   and there are tiny buds on the miniature orchids too...

.. in my last post I had a photo of the Crucifix orchid buds.....  well they are open now and I love this colour.....

In the bags of yarn my brother-in-law gave me after my sister died, I found some crocheted squares, a few bed socks not sewn  up... and 2 cardigan fronts that didn't match.  I decided I didn't want to unravel them to make something else... soo.... I crocheted them together and made a Crazy Knee Rug out of them...  then I put a frilly edging around it and we have a cute keepsake of my sister..   Mum loves it.....
                                                    ..  I'm happy with the result.. ....

..  I love this leaf with the blue sky behind it.. I'm holding it up ....  I was pleased with the photo..

..  snapped this cute bird in the tree that hangs over from next door into our yard......

..  found this lovely moth walking on the snapdragon plants yesterday ..  it's body was striped red and black.... and his shoulders look like they have feathers on them.....   I was very excited.....

... hope you are having lovely weather wherever you are .....  Barb   xxxx

Spring is early this year.... 2016-8-13 ..

... according to the calendar we still have nearly 3 weeks to Spring...  but I've been seeing Spring everywhere in the garden....

..  the bare branches of the plum tree are starting to swell with buds ..  won't be long now before it's covered with blossoms and leaves...

...buds on the Crucifix  Orchids   ........

... and the umbrella tree has new leaves too.....

The snapdragons seem to bloom on and off all year.. as does the Iceberg rose  ......

... even this scruffy hanging pot looks cute with its spider webs in the sunlight.......

I took all these photos earlier today ...  it was so lovely and mild outside ....  I hope it's a beautiful day wherever in the world you are today........

...  hugs....  Barb  xxxx

...Saying Goodbye to Gwen... 2016-8-9 ..

...   It's been just over 2 weeks since my sister Gwen passed away due to a stroke......

...She had been very ill with Poly Myalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell  Arteritis....  (not arthritis)..  this affects the arteries in the head and can cause blindness and strokes....

...  She had some small strokes earlier this year.....   and had to have a lot of tests and biopsies done for diagnosis of the condition....   she was in a lot of pain all the time.... and there is no cure for these conditions ....

.... we all miss her so much, but it's a comfort to know she is out of pain ....

.. she is in Heaven now... God took her home.....

This was the sunrise on the morning of her funeral...

                                                    ........It was so beautiful......
This is part of Coomba Park on the Wallis Lake near Forster  NSW... it's about 4 hours drive from where we live. We stayed the night before and the night after the funeral so Mum wouldn't be so exhausted...  she actually  handled it very well..

The service was held outdoors in the Green Cathedral on the shores of the lake..  it was very serene and peaceful.... but a bit cold..  here's Mum all rugged up in her wheel chair....
....  it was a long and tiring three days for us all.....  especially Mum......  and Gwen's husband is still trying to come to terms with her passing..... I think it will take a long time ....

On the morning after the funeral we had some lovely Lorrikeets visit  us where we were staying....  it made us all  smile...  hubby couldn't resist going out and hand feeding them....  obviously they are used to this....

..  this was a week ago and we have slowly returned to our normal daily routine and  life goes on.....  I don't think the sadness will go away for a long time though  ......

...   hugs....   Barb  xxxxx
