Amazing plant

My brother gave Mum a flower arrangement  for Mother's Day, 7 weeks ago.
In the center was this lovely mauve coloured stem of ornamental Kale.
It was quite large and very pretty.

Over the next 2 weeks the flowers slowly died......
all except the Kale.
7 weeks later it is still has lost a few leaves....but it is still alive and still looks lovely.

I think this is an amazing plant.....this purple-green variety is ornamental and used for floral display.
Most varieties of kale are used for cattle fodder. The curled leaf forms, curled kale or Scotch kale are used in cooking or salads. Kale is a loose-leaved form of cabbage and is also known as borecole.

I'm curious to see how long it lasts in a vase.

Have a good week

Potato Bake

I cooked this dish on the weekend for friends of mine..we had it for lunch and they thought it was lovely...So I thought I'd share it this week......It's simple and filling and can be served with salad instead of hot veges....
Hope you like it.......

This is one of my favourite dishes to cook....I can vary it so many ways...
slice and cook..or cook and slice...potatoes
Cook mince
Have cheese or creamy pasta sauce ready
Layer potato,mince.sauce and cheese
until all with cheese....put in oven to heat through and melt
while bake is in oven......cook veges
veges can be layered in the bake as well
serve on serving platter.. or...straight to plates
I like the soft, creamy and cheesey look .

This potato bake is lovely made with tuna.....

Washing Woes

Hello all,
My daughter's washing machine died 2 weeks before she and her family were to go on holidays.
I told her to bring me all her washing and get the machine fixed after they get back.
SO .... here I am ..up to my elbows in school uniforms and greasy overalls.

This is not a problem.....I'm only to happy to do this...........BUT.....when the weather looks like this

My  back room looks like this......and the clothes dry inside the house

BUT.. when the weather is like this............I'm happy

Because the washing looks like this........ washing woes all disappear in the warm , bright sunlight, and the smell of fresh clean washing  brings a smile to my face.

Have a good week

Hi Ho...Hi Ho......Off to Italy They Go

I'm happy to report that my eldest Daughter and her family finally departed for Italy today.

They were running late this morning and I was having a quiet panic attack.......
We had a few things that needed to be done when they arrived and time was running out.

The plane was leaving at 2pm and they needed to be at the airport about 12noon........

.Weeeellll........ they arrived here at 11.35am  and we all swung into rush mode
I replaced a missing link .. (not to be confused with 'The Missing Link')  on my Daughter's necklace
Hubby repaired a pair of sunnies
My Daughter did some document printing
while Her Daughter cooked some crumpets
and our Son-in-law unloaded washing for me to do while they are away.  The pump on their machine blew up the other day.
It was all done in 15minutes..............I was amazed how everyone co-operated and achieved so much in such a short time.

Hubby went with then to the airport so he could drive their car back here.
They arrived at the airport and were checking in at 12.15pm.......

I was so relieved when I got a call telling me they were all checked in and excited..
It was all happening
A week later than planned due to our grand-daughter being sick in hospital
It was happening

Big happy smiles from everyone.....Especially my Grand-daughter..her eye is almost back to normal

June  18
the second day in Italy their hire-car was broken into and all their luggage was stolen!
Luckily, they had their passports, money and cameras on them.......the thieves only got their clothes.
BUT... buying clothes was not in the budget.  What an adventure they are having.

This week was a buzy one.
My grandson  and his wife had their third child.... a baby boy called Tobey..he was a few weeks premmie but is doing well.

My 10yr old Grandaughter  became ill and developed orbital cellulitis and ended up in hospital. her was badly swollen and she needed an eye specialist.......she is recovering  and going home on Tuesday.

My Mother  had over 24hrs of a severe gastric attack.....I was was worried about dehydration and was ready to take her to hospital when the attack stopped. Mum was, and still is, weak from this but has started to eat normally. She is playing yahtzee again.

Thank you Lord for answering all our prayers this week and looking after my family.

Grand-daughter and new baby up-date

My grand-son's new baby is doing well. Being a month early hasn't been a problem for the little fellow. he just needs a name.

My 10 yr old Grand-daughter is responding to the antibiotics and is starting to feel a little better.
She still needs to see an eye specialist as there is no change in her eye. She is being very brave.

Thank You everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers.

Worry and waiting

It's just after 5am in Sydney.
Alot has happened in the last 12 hours........

My eldest daughter and her family have been sick for the last week or so and they were due to fly out to Italy on Sat. morning.
Yesterday (thursday) her 10yo daughter became really ill and couldn't keep anything down. She started to dehydrate and her eyes started to swell. She was rushed to hospital and put on multiple antibiotics and  rehydrating drips. She has 'orbital celluitis' caused by infected sinisus. She will need to be in hospital for a few days at least. My daughter is spending the night at the hospital with her..

At 3.15am this morning (friday) we got a call from our grandson asking if we could come over and stay with the two little ones while he went to the hospital ......his wife was in labour with baby no.3.
Baby is 3 weeks early.... which is fantastic. Her last baby was 7 weeks early. We have been on standby for the last month or more. Hubby and I have been child minding and taking the d-i-l for twice weekly hospital visits for the last 6 weeks.

So we have two people in two different hospitals...

It is just after 8am and I'm happy to report that my grand-daughter is responding to the antibiotics

My d-i-l had a baby boy abou an hour ago.....

so.... good news all round

bye for now

Camera woes

I had to take my camera in for a check-up today.
It had developed a Black Spot .
This Spot was visable on every photo.....
I tried to be artistic and disguise the Spot in the shadows of my subject.
This was only partially successful..
After a week of trying to turn a problem into a positive...

I gave up and took it in for repair
will be without it for four to six weeks

Hubby has offered me  a loan of his camera while mine is away.....
I gratefully said 'Yes Please'

Have a good week

Not a good week.

Just a short post today.
I'm slowed down by bronchitis at the moment and Hubby is doing extra duties.
He took our daughter to help with minding the g-g-children while he did the hospital check up run twice this week.
He has been cooking and taking me to the doctors.
He still found time to re-finish a dining table for the grandson.

A Big  Thank You to my Hubby... and I'm sure I'll be on the improve soon.

Have a good week,
God Bless
