Choko Bonanza

Our choko vines are going crazy in this mild weather !!!!!

I am trying to cook and freeze as much as I can .......we can't eat them fast enough.

Soooo, it's soup and pie fillings for the winter. I plan to make some jam with them as well....should make nice presents.

Choko, leek, potato and orange sweet potato soup
Choko,apple,pear,peach and necterine custard

Part of the vine.....love the little tendrels
Getting ready to cook
I peel the chokos under running water so hands don't go slimy

In the pot .....peeled an chopped ....I cooked some
choko in a seperate pot for the dessert

Now the leek all washed and chopped

the same for the potatoes

all cooking nicely........  scooped out veges when cooked  and
munced them until not quite smooth then put the mixture back into
the cooking water......this is when you decide how thick or thin you
want your soup to be....cool and freeze

I munched the choko I'd cooked on its own

then added pears, apples peaches sugar and ginger
you can use any fruit and spices you want
I cooked this until soft

 I munched this mixture

then added custard powder mixed with cold water

to the fruit mixture..... stirring until beautiful and thick

soup can be as thick as you want..add seasonings
fruit custard is lovely with yoghurt, ice cream or plain custard.

We really enoyed our soup and custard....easy  to make.      Now for some jam making.

Bye for now

Perfume bottles

I have decided to pack way some of my perfume bottle collection. .... but not before I took some photos!
Some of these bottles are vintage, and some were gifts from friends.

I like the shapes nd colours of these.
The blue and gold  Mikado bottle is  an atomiser and the
plunger is a flower.

The pale blue Worth bottle is from the Lalique factory.
The Jicky is from 1920/30 according to my friend, who gave it to me.
My daughter gave me the Dior bottle,it came without it's stopper.

The centre bottle is a lepoard topped promotional bottle
(empty) of Delicious from Gale Hayman

Close up....I love this one

Californian Poppy and  Cutex polish remover bottles

I have tried to fnd out informatiom about the age and possible value of these bottles but I've had no success....Still it's fun looking.  I have collected old household bottles over the years. Family and friends started giving me ones they had, then wine bottles and any bottle they thought I might find interesting ... hence the perfume bottles, which I love.

I hope you enjoyed  seeing some of my collection
Have a good week

Bonsai fun

Hello,
I spent some time in the garden today.
It was a nice sunny day and I wanted to get some weeding done while it wasn't raining.

I started tidying up my bonsais...Now I'm not the best gardener around...and the original bonsai plants I had ..Died. So now I bonsai  my way.

A Fig Tree roll..the base of the circle has roots

This is an Ochna(micky mouse) growing through the hole in a rock
my brother brought back from  Jordan for me

this is a Morton Bay fig tree leaning on a rock
I keep it short so it gets a thick trunk

this is a Banyan Fig (mangrove) growing
over a pile of river stones

This fig tree is what we call a rubber tree
This Bonsai is growing against a piece of concrete

I hope you like my 'take' on traditional Bonsai growing.
All but the Fig Roll will develop into 'proper ' bonsais in about
10 years.

Have a good week..........
