Washing Day

Hello Everyone,

After all the rainy days we have been having in Sydney, Australia plus family calling in to see us for the New Year, my Simple Pleasure for today was being able to do my washing, hang it on the line and get it dried and put away, smelling like sunshine----all on the same day. Washing day can be a chore but for me today, it was Simply a Pleasure.Thank you Lord for a lovely day

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Hello World, I'm writing to wish everyone the Blessings of the Season. Christmas is special family time and I sincerely hope that you all have wonderful gatherings and share good food and laughter together.
My husband is spending time with his brothers and sister and their families this year, while Mum and I are staying here in Sydney having lots of soft Christmas desserts to help me recover from dental work done this week.

New Year is the time to reflect and make changes (if necessary) to our lives.
New Year - New Beginning
Sounds good to me
My changes include trying to smile more often (should be easy with new teeth - I hope),
and to show more tolorance to my Husband and Mum.

God Bless
Bye, Barb

Christmas Lunches

One of the simple things I like about Christmas is sharing lunch (or just a cuppa & cake) with friends. Yesterday we had guests for a prawn salad and christmas pudding luncheon, and today another friend came to exchange presents and enjoy a simple lunch outdoors. My husband and I try to see as many of our friends as possible for these little moments of sharing the Christmas Spirit. Thank You to Dayle at http://alittleofthisandthat2.blogspot.com and the all the ladies at Simple Pleasures for your welcome. May God Bless You all this Christmas Season. Barb

hello World, It's been a buzy time in our house and family recently. Mum had to go to the hospitral for pre-admission tests in preparation for a carpel tunnel op on her left hand. because Mum is on Warfarin she has to have injections of Clexane pre and post op.Not plesant. I finalised the arrangements to have 5 teeth removed on the 21st Dec and a plate made. Mum's op was on 6th Dec (we had to have her there at 6.30 am) The op went well(thank the Lord) and Mum is o.k. We arrived home from the hospital to find my grand-daughter-in-law had to be rushed to another hospital because her baby was coming 9 weeks early. Our new little great-grand-son was born that day, tiny and frail ,but healthy. He will have to stay in hosp for some weeks after his mum goes home. He is named Max. A big "Thank You" to everyone praying for Mum and Max. Max's grandmother,my daughter Therese, dropped everything,re-arranged her day and drove 2 hours to be with Max and his parents. It was a special time for them.

We are taking Mum to the hosp every second day for blood tests until her Warfarin levels are back to normal.
In spite of her hand op, Mum insisted she was up to Bingo --- soooo ---we went to Bingo and won a Christmas Ham. Mum was over the moon. What a good day.

My daughter Mary had a fall in the car park at the school where she volunteers her time, and had to have three stitches above her eye. Now she has a big dramatic Black Eye. She was shaken up but o.k. and back at school.(you can't keep a good woman down) Her teenage daughters are a bit embarrased by the whole thing.

Must go now,
Be in touch soon

The Get Together Is Over

Hello World,
The Great Kris Kringle and Family and Friends Get-Together for 2010 is officially over and has been voted a success by all who attended!

I am already making plans for 2011, a bit obsessive compulsive I know, but that's the way I am.

My knitted hats were a hit!
I hung them on the clothesline so they could be easily seen. It was very festive. Most guests took one home.
We had beautiful weather on the day. The children enjoyed themselves and kept the adults entertained as they played with their presents.
I over-catered, but that meant more for everyone to take home and some for the freezer.
Last year's Christmas cards made wonderful wall decorations as did grandchildren photos from other Christmas parties. The kids (both young and old) were laughing at how they looked when they were younger. Going through old photos can be fun :-)
My daughter-in-law made the beautiful Christmas Cup Cake centerpiece. All the little cakes were eaten and the big cake is in the freezer and will be used for Mum's birthday in January.
She also knitted little stockings and put a roll of lollies in them. These were put on the tree for anybody to take.

I put out the santa I knitted from a picture on a card a few years ago. The little ones love him because he is unbreakable.

Sorry the top cake photo is sideways, but I can't find the icon that lets me turn them right side up :-(
-----one day I hope to be able to use all the bits that will make blogging more fun!

God Bless
Bye for now
Barb

Hello everybody

Thursday, November 25, 2010

Hello World,
Just 2 days to our Kris Kringle party. I am getting more excited every day. I'm worse than a child. I just love the anticipation on everyone's face when it's time to open presents.
Kevin has been wonderful. He's given our wooden floors a fresh coat of varnish and they look lovely---a rich honey glow. AND even as I write he is re-painting the toilet floor --- what a lovely suprise........... Mum is very pleased with the floors.

Today is clean the house and make space for the Christmas Food Day.

Tomorrow my sister arrives ----all coming together nicely.
Even the fact that half the family can't get here 'till later in the afternoon on Saturday is not a problem, it just means that present opening will be in dribs and drabs and the party will go a little longer. That can't be a bad thing . (so much for my organising ---luckilly the pills have kicked in and stressing is not on my agenda)

I'll post some photos later

get-together update

Hello World,

I am up to the most satisfying part of my Get-together preparations :::: The Food ::::::
I love it when I get to this point in the preparations because it means that soon all our family and friends will be here to feast their eyes on the decorations, fill their tummies with favorite foods and feel loved when they get their gifts. Wonderful !!!

About 30 minutes ago I asked my husband if the small TV in the dining room could be moved to a shelf on the other side of the room. And, Lo and Behold in the time it has taken me to write this, he has moved it. He is so fantastic !!!!! (it's times like this I'm reminded why I love him)
It never ceases to amaze me how changes around the house that I think will be easy are not, and things that look difficult to me are easy for Kevin.
Mum and I are very pleased with the new TV position, it's at eye level and the lights are not reflected on the screen, much better for veiwing. Thanks Kevin xxxxxxxxxxx

Mum got notification from the hospital that her carpel tunnel op on her left hand will be on 9th of December. She is very happy. It will all be over soon.

My cousin is now home from hospital, but will be on oxygen and medication for the rest of her life. Better than the alternative, eh!!!

My friend Merle has gone on a weeks holiday at her sister's place.
We have made our choices of where we want to go in France next year and early December we will go to a travel agent and organise bookings. VERY EXCITING

It's been lovely to be able to pack away my winter pj's and gowns for another 9 months or so.....
WELCOME WARM WEATHER

I have made a poster of old Christmas photos of the grandchildren that I hope will make everybody laugh.

Will write again soon

multi-tasking

Hello world, Our printer died and my wonderful husband replaced it with a model that has wireless connections to our laptops. This morning I needed a pattern for a little mouse in a sleeping bag that I knitted years ago for a friend. She has asked me to knit one for her new son.
I couldn't find the book so I went on the internet and THERE IT WAS. I was so pleased to find the exact pattern I wanted buuuuttttt the best part was that with one press on the print button the printer in a totally different room from where I was printed it out for me. Now I can access the printer from any room in the house using my little net book.
I think this almost beats my slow cooker as my favourite appliance in the house.
Come to think of it--- I could have the slow cooker on in the kitchen, be sitting in the garden with my p.c. and, be printing out in the office at the same time. What Power!!
Thank You Kevin .......

Bye for now, got to get knitting, will be in touch soon

Some of the beanies I knitted for our Kris Kringle LuckyDip.
They look good even if I say so myself.
Hope the family like them.
I plan to continue making them for charity now that I have perfected my simple and easy-to-knit design
I love the look you get when you use two different wools together on larger needles
I'm using up my stash of varigated wools and combining them with a plain colour for this look. Works well for textured and plain combo too. More later , Barb.

Hello,Hello,Hello I'm back,

I,ve had a busy time these last few weeks, visiting our cousin in hospital twice a week, bingo on Mondays, shopping for our party in three weeks time, knitting beanies for family and charity, decorating the house for Christmas, aaannnnnddd having a stress attack that resulted in me doing what everyone has been telling me to do----taking time to relax (I,m a bit of a slow learner). So one weekend a month I,ll be going to my friend's place to play cards and create Works Of Art...giving Mum and Kevin time out from being harassed (even though I harass in a nice way ---my story---) by me. SMILES ALL ROUND

Hello world,

I hope everyone has had a nice fortnight.

Our spring weather is being shy and is not staying with us yet, winter still has us in it's clutches. The flowers are just beautiful, everywhere I look there is a sea of colour. I have successfully grown 1 sweet pea plant this year,it has a lovely purple flower. My christmas bush is coming into flower now so I should have a nice pink bush for our get-together. The pointsettia is covered in bright red blooms and looking dramatic, so are the cactus plants----red flowers everywhere!!!

The green budgie has been sent to the backyard aviery and has settled in quite well.It still wont fly properly but it gets around by climbing on the wire walls and using the ladders. The white budgie is feeding it---need to keep my eye on them .

Our family health issues are stable at the moment, thank the Lord, I hope improvement is the next step.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

HelloWorld, I'm happy to report that I've only got to get a couple of family presents and that part of my Christmas preparations will be done, wrapped, tagged and bagged ready for the Day of the Get-together. I'm still knitting hats for my lucky dips, the count is 20 with more to come. We have won 3 legs of ham at Bingo so we have plenty to share with the family for the festive season. I've decided on a Santa theme for this year, so my next job (with Kevin's help) will be going through all our decorations. My challenge is to find a balance between my desire for Total Over The Top and Mum,s desire to pretend It's Not Happening ----looks like fun.

We have some health issues in the family at this time (brother, cousin, aunt in particular) so please say some prayers for them.

I'm going to pack some of my decorative collectable (some people would dispute this) treasures away for a while so I can bring out 1 collection at a time for maximum impact. I'll have a dedicated display area for this.

We're sprucing up our outdoor area and it's looking very smart at the moment. The constant leaves from the campher laurel tree (which technically belongs to our next-door neighbour--but has a trunk that has grown through the fence and trunk and canopy are now mostly in our yard) which we love for it's shade in summer, keeps Kevin busy. I'd like to begin a trend of leaving leaves where they fall and calling them Natures Designer Leaves and just live with them---- but Mum and Kevin call this messy and are always sweeping them up and putting them in the green bin. Maybe I'm just a bit lazy --but we won't go there.

We've been watching a fair bit of the Commonwealth Games and all our athletes are wonderful.
Especially Michael Hooker who took out the gold medal in pole vault with his first jump.Amazing.

We have inhereated a green budgie from our grandson who found it in his yard. It can't fly up, only level and fluts to the floor. Sooooo now we have 2 birds in cages living in our dining room.
I'm trying to hand tame it and teach it to fly so we can pass it on to someone else or release it into our aviary- but- human nature being like it is we'll probably become so used to it just being there, that it will live there forever UNLESS it starts screetching----- then who knows what will happen to the poor little thing.

Back to my hats,
Bye for now,
Barb

He is ready for all kinds of weather

Dashing in denim

Hello World, I've decided to share my handsome dog with you. He's a real cutie and he likes wearing clothes. He has a very stylish wardrobe of fashion items given to him for birthdays and christmas over the last few years. He is a long legged, full tailed, long haired Jack Russell Terrier who hates mornings and doesn't get up for the day until about 9am. He copies everything we do here,if we sit - he sits, if we go into the yard so does he and when we come inside, you guessed it- so does he. When we sit at the table reading the paper or eating,he waits until one of us gets up for something and like a rocket he's onto the empty chair. If someone else gets up he changes to that chair.
I have to admit that we do this on purpose sometimes just to see him play musical chairs.

September 2010

Hello World, I'm catching up with some of the things that has happened lately.

My sister Gwen came for a 10 day visit and while she was here we had an afternoon tea to celebrate my grandson's and my brother-in-law's birthdays. We had unplanned cakes coming out of our ears. Everybody brought a cake, we sent cake home with them all and have stored Steve's uncut cake in the freezer to give back to him later.

Here's a couple of happy snaps my daughter-in-law took of us all.

We went to Bingo on the Monday and Merle won a leg of ham.

Mum had physio on Tuesday so I caught up on housework while Kevin drove her to her session.

Mum,Gwen and I played Skip-bo for the next three or four afternoon/evenings and had fun. It was good to see Mum playing a game with us.

We spent a lot of time relaxing and knitting. Mum is still knitting squares for charity and I'm making more hats,( Ifigure any hats not used as chrissie presents will be donated to charity). Gwen is knitting a table runner in white cotton thread, the pattern is lovely.

We talked a lot. About everything and anything.

Gwen cut and permed my daughter Sue's hair. It looked lovely, exactly how she wanted it to look.

Good job done!!

Gwen helped Mum choose a new pair of frames for her glasses.

It was Sunday and time for Gwen to leave before we knew it.

After Gwen went on Sunday my friend Annette rang and asked if I would like herself and her son and his family to call in and visit for a while. The family is on a visit from Hong Kong where they live. Of course I quickly said "yes please'. It was wonderful to see them and to meet their little daughter in person and not just as a photo. She is absolutely gorgeous. Their son has grown taller since we saw him last.(see top photo)
We went to Bingo on Monday and Mum won a leg of lamb. (Good on ya Mum)
My cousin Bev rang to let us know that her sister Lesley had had some scans done and they showed she'd had a heart attack, had blood clots in her lung and has pnumonia as well. Les is now in hospital and Bev is staying with their Mum (who'll be 100 in Feb 2011) and looking after her. My Mum is very concerned about them and how they will cope with this new health problem. Keep you posted.
My brother Mike has his pre-op tests today ready for his angiogram next week to find out what damage his recent heart attack has done to his heart.
We're all praying that God will help everyone through these worrying times.
Bye for now Barb

My tree

Hello World, I'm trying to post tree photos.
This is my beautiful plum tree in it's stages from blossom to start of leaves to fully in leaf. The petals on the path remind me of the winter snows. We don't get snow where I live so I enjoy having 'petal snow' for a short time.
The spring weather is cold and lovely at the moment and we look for warm spots to sit in the sun.

Hello world, ---I love the fact that I can indulge my meglomaniacal streak and imagine that the world is waiting to read what I have to say. Blogging gives me an outlet for quirky and (hopefully) amusing comments on my life and the lives of those around me. PLUS it gives me something to do with the overload of pictures I've taken over the years of the things that take my fancy --- you know ,things like a nice baked dinner (click), new curtains (click),changing the throw covers on the lounge(click), Mum's new hair-do(click), flowers(click), my dog (click), my husband and grand children (click) ----------you get the idea I'm sure.

SOOOO, whoever you are out there in The Big Wide World Of Blog -------------I hope you enjoy my take on life.

I figure by now you understand why I have the word "babbling" in my title.

Sorry I didn't get back with photos on Sunday but I got sidetracked (something else that I do and you can imagine what babbling and sidetracking do to my days) and ran out of time. It was Monday and Bingo Day. No time for photos. I won 2 meat trays (make that 2 trays of meat) and a leg of ham at Bingo. Ham for our Kris Kringle. Good one!!!!!

Photos next time.

Bye for now, Barb

Sunday, September 5, 2010

Hello World,
We've had a busy week here, running backwards and forewards and I've been checking out
Christmas presents.

I've decided to run with hats as my handmade gifts this year. I've started crocheting my own designs because I find following a pattern quite difficult and I learned a long time ago that if I do my own thing there's no mistakes, only design features. I'm mixing colours and textures and having a lot of fun. My next big decision is how to actually give the hats to everyone. I don't know if I should wrap and put names on them, wrap them and put them in a lucky dip OR just put them all unwrapped in a big colourful pile and let everyone rummage and pick their own. Maybe I could hang them on the Christmas Tree ???? now thats an idea.

I have a granddaughter turning 9, a grandson turning 25 and a brother-in-law turning 52 all in this coming week. I've sent the granddaughters present down to the farm, and will have a BBQ for the guys. (it can be hard to find 'men presents' sometimes so I go with a meal---a bit un-imaginative I know-----but we have to eat and food is a good standby).

My sister from up north is coming to have some time with Mum and us. I don't know how long she'll be here for. It will be lovely to see her. We'll probably go and have lunch at our brothers places. I might have an extra-early Christmas Dinner while she is here - or not.
We'llhave to wait and see. There I go with the food thing again-- can't help myself.

Most of the males in my family are having Father's Day at the car races today. They'll all pretend the're 18 again and try and out- do each other telling their car stories. They'll come home tired, deaf and happy. What a good day.

My 20yo granddaughter is doing training in Animal Handling and is at an animal sanctury on the far north coast at the moment. She sent her mum
a message yesterday saying she'd been bitten by a crocodile. She went on to say it was only a young one that bit her but it's very painful and she needed medical treatment. (it was probably a hatchling and she put a band-aid on the bite. BUT -what a good story)

Mum started physio on her hands on Tuesday and has to do exercises every day to
strengthen them. They are also working on her balance. She'll go twice a week for a while .

I had invited friends for lunch on Wednesday so they could see our beautiful plum tree in full bloom. It was a lovely sunny spring day, we had a BBQ and salad and apple pie for dessert. It was perfect timing, because the next three days were windy and rainy and all the blossoms have either blown away or have turned brown. The rain has brought on the leaves and the tree is covered with soft greenery. Still beautiful!!

Kevin and I went into the city on Thursday and fixed up the paperwork for our passports.
I'm planning to go to France with Merle next year for a month long holiday.I've never been overseas before and I'm looking foreward to it. We thought we'd go in March, then we said April/May, now we're saying June is looking good. Our problem is - we want to take the least amount of clothes, we don't like the cold and we want to keep travel costs down so we have more money for the important things -like shopping and eating beautiful French Food.

Got to go now and hang out the washing. I will post some photos later today-------Barb

Jogging into June/July

Hello world, I'm into the last few weeks of my year that was and I'm a bit sad that the end is near. I'll have to think up another project to work on.

Mum and I kept knitting --Mum on squares and me on hats. I have already posted photos of some of pieces in a previous post.

Mum had nerve conduction tests on her hands in preparation for her carpel tunnel ops. and she went to a new podiatrist who was very gentle and made her feel special. This fellow is the tallest man I've ever seen and he describes himself as a gentle giant. Mum thought he was lovely.

I went with my eldest daughter(who turned 47 this month) and her youngest son to Westmead Hospital while he had dental work done.

We went to our friend Edna's place for lunch and took her a few bags of books to donate to one of the charities she helps.Edna also does a lot of knitting for the local nursing homes. No idle hands around here.

My daughter Mary's cat quietly died of old age.It was sad to say goodbye. She was buried in her favourite spot in the back yard. Kevin made a special box and name marker for the cat.

We go to Bingo most weeks and this month we won a chicken and 3 trays of meat. Good one!

We went to Annette's place to put the curtains back up in her newly painted unit. It looked lovely.

My brother Michael hadn't been feeling very well and he was sent for some tests and was shocked to be told that he'd had a heart attack and that there was a clot in his heart. He was put on medication and has to take things very slowly.

Edna and Bob came over for our combined birthday lunch. We had a baked pork and vegies. Yummy

I have a loose front tooth and the dentist told me I might have to have it out and a plate made.
Not impressed!!!! Hopefully it will firm up and be o.k. I'll just have to wait and see.

Kevin saw his heart specialist and was told he MUST loose some weight.

My sister's father-in-law had a heart valve replacement and is recovering very well.

We went into the city and delivered all the blankets that we had made from the squares knitted by mum and her friends. One of mum's friends has M.S and her hands are very bad, but she helped with the knitting. Altogether we made 10 blankets

The day before my birthday I permed Mum's hair. She seemed happy with the result-(thank goodness)

ALL IN ALL A GOOD YEAR

On my journey from birthday to birthday I have had a lot of frustration learning my way around the internet, and if the end result of putting a photo and some thoughts on line wasn't such a buzz I would have given up weeks ago.
I'll start a new project soon' but in the meantime I'll keep you up to date with whats happening
in my life.

Bye for now, Barb

Hello out there, I'm catching up with "The year that was" again and I am up to May.

May was a mixed month for us here at home. Mum and I had a lovely Mother's Day. We heard from all our respective children and their families and Kevin organised lunch for us.

We spent most of May knitting squares for baby blankets.

Mum went on the waiting list to have her right carpel tunnel released.

I spent a whole day in the kitchen dying clothes and odds and ends black---well...things started out black but as I hate to waste good dye, by the time I finished I'd dyed all my knickers pale grey and t-shirts and slacks every colour in-between. It was good fun, sometimes the colour you get is an unexpected supprise.

Mum had her hair permed

Kevin bought me a net book computer (which is why I'm sharing my learning experiences with everybody). I find it lovely that I can go to bed and use my computer to go through all my photos. I have discovered that I am a prolific but not-so-good photographer---another area I hope to improve on.

My friend Annette got a new grandson AND a new car this month. Lucky girl

My three daughters all had health scares for various reasons and had to re-evaluate their lifestyles i,e. less fat, less sugar, less red meat, something we all should do.

I was given a hand knitted jacket that I was able to restyle and make catwalk worthy.
The double breasted version is the before and single breasted trimmed one is the after
I was very pleased at how it turned out
Now that really WAS fun.

Bye for now Barb

Plum Tree Heaven

Spring has sprung ---my plum tree tells me. It was last sunday when I took my sister for a walk around my yard and the tree was in bud but still looking bare that the miracle happened. Two hours after she left my plum tree burst into blossom. Not one or two flowers, the tree was covered in flowers. I would have loved to have seen it happen.

Mum kas a lovely view from the lounge room and her bedroom windows, and the side passage is already sprinkled with snow white petals. It looks beautiful.

My winter roses (hellebore)

I love my hellebore flowers because they last a long time on the bush and slowly change colour from lilac to green.
This change can take weeks and the flowers stay green for a bit longer before they whither up
Good garden value I think, plus they like the cold weather so no fussing.

Christmas plans

Hello world,I've just finished playing around with the colours on my blog and I like the new look.

We all went to Bingo today and Merle won a tray of steaks. Mum and I were hoping to win a ham to put in the freezer ready for our Christmas get-together, but no luck today-we'll try again next week.
I decided our get-together will be the end of November this year and that I will do all the Kris Kringle present buying. I have three good reasons for buying the KK pressies myself --
1 Every body usually loses the name of who the're buying for
2 I get asked for suggestions about what to buy for people
3 I like browsing the shops and finding odds and ends
I've told the family that their present to me will be the fun of shopping and keeping the list of who gets what. I have the menu all worked out and only have the decorating theme to decide.

Fun Fun Fun for me (love thjs part of the yearly traditions) and lovely suprises for the family.

Bye for now, Barb

Mum's hand

Mum is very happy today. She got the stitches out of her hand and has the paperwork to book in for the other hand to be done.No more bandages means she can shower without a plastic bag on her hand and she has freedom of movement again.

April days

Hello World, I'm going to tell you about our lovely April. Easter was in early April and my brother-in -law Steve came to visit us on the morning of Easter Sunday and then my brother Franc came in the afterenoon. At different times throughtout the day all the family rang to wish Mum and us "Happy Easter" It was a happy day.
Kevin went to the Easter Show and got sunburnt...I only went once this year,I'm all showed-out for now. Maybe next year I'll put an entry in and go along to see the crafts and the dogs and cats,and......actually I like everything about the show and my craft is usually geared around"what will I put in the show this year".
We went on a pontoon cruise with a friend of ours and his grandson who had come from HongKong to spend the school holidays with him and his Aussie cousins. It was good to see the boys fishing and enjoying themselves. Unfortunately there was only one undersized fish caught on the day and would you believe it was caught by moi...sorry boys.
Our great-granddaughter Lyla was christened on the 11th and we all went back to our son's house for a party afterwards.
Mum and I are busy knitting squares to be made into blankets for babies.
I went onto the net and looked up 'charity knitting' and was suprised at how many organisations
there are that co-ordinate 'square knitting' and other knitted projects for people and animals in need. There is a site in England that gives you the pattern for knitting coats for rescued battery hens that have lost their feathers because of stress. There is no reason to have idle hands.

On that note---- I'll close and do some housework. Bye for now Barb xx

mums hand progress

It has been 10 days since Mum's hand op. and she still is not allowed to put pressure on it (like using her walking stick ),but she is now holding a spoon and picking up light things using her fingers. She is very cheerful. We went to Bingo on Monday and it was good to see her managing
the dobber with her left hand. Luckily the poker machines are easy to use with either hand.
See you soon Barb xx

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Hello World , I thought I'd give you an update on Mum's Carpel Tunnel operation. She had to be at the hospital on Monday morning at 6.30am so we were up about 5am. Mum was the first op. of the day and went into theatre at 8.20. Kevin and I went and had 'second breakfast' and waited until Mum was ready to leave. We were home by 1.15pm. Mum has to keep her hand up and in a sling for at least 5 days. She can wiggle her fingers and doesn't have much pain. We are all happy at her progress so far. She is missing her knitting, but, refuses to learn to knit with her feet. (I thought this was a good solution----) We see her GP on Friday and will get our first look at 'the wound'.

Back to 'the year that was'----
March - 'Makeover the back yard' month (a.k.a. fence&fernery or f''n'f month)

Therese and John came to Sydney for a wedding and stayed the night here, Monique and Ryan moved to Queensland to live, and I entered my re-cycled sunglasses jewellery in the Castle Hill show, all in the first few days of the month. It was time now for a new fence--at last---.I get all excited at projects like this because it gives me the chance to re-arrange things and create a new look. Kevin ,of course, is not so happy because he has to do any heavy work that's needed.
We moved our fish ponds and enclosed them with sandstone blocks, moved the orchid house and palm trees ,bought more ferns and created a nice tropical look area. The new fence is cream and the new hanging pots and the sandstone blend beautifully with it.
I won 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize in my catergory at the show (which sounds like I'm really clever, until I tell you that I was the only person to enter in that catergory) I still got a buzz seing my work displayed.--see photo in fab-feb post.
I spent a traumatic few days culling my large accumulation of craft and cooking books. It was hard being honest with myself and admitting that although I love the pattern/receipe I really had no intention of making it. Soooo now I have a small collection of books I just might use and my son has a nice addition to his next garage sale- a win-win for all.
We had our grand-daughter's 16th birthday party here. Noisy and fun, just what the young ones like.
Would you believe Kevin had 2 (yes 2) minor car accidents this month, both times he ran into the car in front. A shock to his belief in his 'safe distance to the car ahead' judgement. No one was hurt.
We took Mum to Bargo to see her sister, and we continued on to the farm for a birthday party for our grand-son. It was a lovely day.
Our parish priest came to visit Mum and she enjoyed seeing him.He gave her Communion.

So that was my Fence-Fernery&Farm month.
Have to go now ....dentist app.

See you soon Barb

Thanks for sticking with me through my sad efforts at technical proficiency. Still, I got there in the end and now everything is in the one place--thanks to Kevin.

NOW on to Fab February

This month I started to make some pendants out of old lenses from spectacles and sun glasses. I used decouparge and paint on some and the reflective sunny lenses I cut and drilled. It was a lot of fun sharing the workshop and tools with my husband. I plan to do more for Christmas.
I entered these ones into the Castle Hill Show and was lucky enough to win a prize

My brother and brother-in-law had given kevin and I tickets for the stage show 'Wicked' this month. It was brilliant. The costumes were incredible and the colours amazing. It was a wonderful evening and we thank them very much for such a special treat.

We had our Granddaughter and her fiancee over for tea so we could say Goodbye to them before they went to Townsville to live. He is in the army and this is where his base is.

We went to our friend's son's house to see the new kitchen he put in. It has the most amazing red glass splashback with a large orange Bird of Paradise on it. Spectacular..

We had lots of visits from our grandchildren because of the school holidays. Good fun.

We spent a few days going backwards and forewards helping another friend pack up her ornaments etc. ready for her flat to be painted.

Bye for now Barb

Feb was a Fab month

Hello World, this is "babblingonbarb"and I'm happy to report that with the help of my husband I have successfully copied and pasted the 3 posts from my other blog to this blog. This is the blog I'll be using from now on. Smart husbands are great. Enjoy my internet blunderings.
I'm closing now and wish you all a good night.
Barb
I have been trying to merge this blog (barbsbabbling-barb.blogspot.com) with my other blog (babblingonbarb.blogspot.com) but -- no go. This means I have had to re-think this situation and I figure the best thing to do is to leave the blogs as they are and just tell people to check the other(?) blog. SO------if you'd like to see photos of my winter collection of hats, please go to babblingonbarb. I will post hints and clues about whats on what blog and you can all have fun crisscrossing back and forth. We should all have a lot of fun. Bye for now Barb
Hi World, I'm learning how to work my blogs with the help of my husband and e-mails and phone calls from my sister.A friends daughter told me she thinks it's good that someone of my generation is interested in technology---(ouch,am I really that old? I guess I am. Sigh) This comment spurred me on to learning more about what I could do with my computer and this is the result,a blog learning curve.Bye for now, Barb

Hello World, I thought I would let you know that it's my birthday tomorrow, I'll be 68 and I intend to reach 100. I have a 93yo mum and a 99yo aunt so I think my chances are pretty good. I like birthdays because they make you ask yourself "What did I do in the last year?" Ive been thinking about this a lot and I'll check my calender and make a list and let you know what my year was like. Bye for now, Barb.

One blog to another

Hello World, my blog merging efforts were dismal failures. Lack of knowledge can be a problem. So I'm going with the flow and leaving my blogs as they are. I will post to both and give hints about whats on what blog. My other blog is "barbsbabbling-barb.blogspot.com" and this one is "babblingonbarb.blogspot.com" - fun for all, I hope. See you soon, Barb
I have totally confused myself and have lost posts and blogspots--- you name it I've mucked it up. Merging my two blogs didn't work--I figure it's because they have the same e-mail address. But then I could be wrong!!!! Here goes-- I shall post this and see where it ends up

More of my collection

White hat is from a book it's a spiral snail-shell design using circular needles.

A few more
designs I made. Variations on a theme.

This one is trimmed with blue beads.

The pink and grey hat looks like an upside-down bowl with bumps

More fun

Side view of swirley flower.
Headband and optional way to wear scarf.

hat and neck wrap

A little bit of fun making this set, I didn't like the way the pattern in the book was working out so "I Did It My Way" and it worked out fine.---(in my opinion, that is)

Mum's Birthday

January 2010
Gwen came and permed Mum's hair for her birthday. Trish and Daniel came to be with
Gwen and I while Mum had skin cancer cut out of her arm.( any excuse for a get together )

Our granddaughter Monique had her engagement party.

All in all a good month.

Barb
Kevin with our Gt granddaughter Lyla Mae.

I told you she is beautiful

As youcan see she is chubby like her gt-grandfather

Big eyes and curly hair.
a

look a photo on the blog !!!!! These decorations were made with the plastic ring seals from milk and juice bottles. I crocheted around them and put beads on them. And now I'm writing in
italics------clever eh!! if only I knew what to do to change back---- another lesson, another day. Barb
hello photos
It's now an hour or more later and I still havent been able to put a photo on my blog. (big sigh)

We shall now visit Dec 2009
Would you believe my husband and my dog both had to go to hospital for day surgery?
Kevin had another attempt made to insert a stent into his artery, but again no-go. He has to take things easy and not exhaust himself and the cardiologist will check him again in 2010. More
prayers!
As for the dog--well he had impacted anal glands and was in a lot of pain. It took three people to hold him down while the vet pushed and squeezed.(not a preety sight) Finally he was a tender but relieved little dog. He subdued for a few days.
12th Dec was our GreatGrandaughter's first birthday. That was a happy day.She got a nice lot of presents. We are very proud of her.She is a happy, healthy baby who smiles a lot. I took some nice photos which I hope one day to be able to post for your viewing............
We had a lovely Christmas Day Lunch at home with Mum then visited some special friends
later in the afternoon. Nice day.
Before the month was over I had taken down all the decorations and packed them away for next
year.
NOW comes the best time of all-----preparing for Mum's birthday in January. Parties are my thing.I take every chance I can to organise a get together/party.
Talk to you soon
Barb
Hello World, I'm back and hopefully I can put photos on my page so you can see the kind of things I do.

excuse my mistakes

Sorry about the last entry stopping ubruptly,I was trying to create a parragraph. I'll try again.
It looks like it worked.
Yes,yes,yes.
Thank you Kevin, now I can seperate all the bits I write so it's not just one big lump of words.
(getting old-er is a bit of a problem when the memory won't work)

O.K ----back to November-----
Mum had a few days in hospital. The day she came home we got a call to say her (then 99yo) sister had taken a turn and was dying. Lots of prayer time later, she rallied and is still alive and looks like reaching her 100th in Feb.2011
Kevin(my hubby) had to have an angiogram because his arteries were blocked again.
AND on the 29th we had Our Christmas Get-together with the family. This is my special party. We have a Kris Kringle for pressies, lights, cameras, and good food and good wishes for all. We were extra thankfull at that party.

Thats it for now, and I'm glad to say the rest of my year was not so dramatic. More of that later

my year in review

I spend a lot of time every year making christmas presents and decorations sometimes using recycled bits and pieces that I dolly-up. I'm not sure if my family always like the things I make but they accept them with smiles so I keep them coming. Sometimes I like what I make so much I enter some pieces in the local shows and I have won some prizes over the years --- Good Fun. My latest pieces were pendants made from old sunglasses. Wait for pictures. My year did have some highlights, like in Oct when Mum had cateracts taken off her eyes and my sisters came to stay with us. One sister for each eye, Mum enjoyed that part. Then in Nov we had to take Mum hospital with atrial fibulation. We had gone to the Dr for scripts and Mum asked him to check her blood pressure. When he did, he said her pulse was irregular and she had to go straight to hospital for monitoring. Mum said said "I'll go after I meet my friends for lunch". He said "No lunch, hospital now or I'll call an ambulance to the surgery for you." She said "I'll miss out on my hot chips" ---at the hospital they found out Mum had a clot in her lung. After a

mondays

I like Mondays because we pick up my friend Merle and we go to the club for Bingo. The prizes are all meat trays, and I love the look on Mum's face whenever she wins one. We sit at the same table with the same people every week so we know each other pretty well. Mum and a couple of the ladies have been sitting together for about 10 years now so it's a great social morning. After lunch Merle and I play cards while Mum plays the pokies and the hubby reads his book. I put $5 in the pokies (and mostly loose it) and that's my limit. We don't say how much we loose or win, only if we did loose or win. We drink coffee and attempt to solve the riddles of life. Good fun. I had a very relaxed birthday and received some contributitons to my France Fund.
